When I was a child, my grandfather taught me these by telling me stories while we travel from Kolkata to Rishra, a place in hoogly where his home was. I still remember how I fell in love with history, especially the post-Mughal period, since my city Kolkata played a big part in it. My grandfather passed away in 2013. British conquered India after defeating Marathas in the third battle. The kingdoms near to the northeast region of Indian subcontinent had geopolitical advantage. They controlled the major trade routes to central asian countries middle, east, europe. So the northern part of India had been facing political turmoils because of this. This is the main reason how islamic dynasties succeeded in conquering northern part of India. After 15th century India started trade relations with Portugese. This was a set back for Islamic dynasties in Indian subcontinent. They declined by 17th century. Nizam of Hyderabad was a supporter of British. This was how he survived. After 1947 India defeated nizams army and annexed Hyderabad.

actually, I dont think this is not taught at all. History taught is school is quite linear, eg: Mughals ruled India from X to Y years. Then there was a war, which British won. And all of a sudden they started ruling all over India. The nuances that this invasion was gradual, perfected over generations (from British POV) is not taught at all.
Sikhs did bidding for the British, took help ( bombs, maps, telescopes, guns, bombs , soldiers, tanks) and invaded kingdoms who used swords and stones. When the rented Sikh empire expanded, British broke deals with them and conquered India. Mrathas did the same. It's not wrong to say that Sikhs and Marathas are the reasons behind the British colonization. British in return, built Maharashtra and Punjab. benefits like cinema, railway, water dams, bridges, roads, irrigation/agriculture system, English colleges, courts, parliament , printing press, factories trained army ISI/ RAW.
I think this video was a brief concept of "Pre-Independence India". I have read pre independent indian history for my Civil Service Exam and it was great to take concept of the British Empire in india after Medieval Part of the Subcontinent.
200 years of colonial rule is not a period when we gave up and become a slave rather this 200 yrs period is actually continuous struggle. Actually british doesn't even rule for 200 yrs they ruled north for even less than 150 yrs also that period is hard for them to rule in 1838 they defeated Sikhs and then they acquired whole india just for next 100 yrs and from 1857 there is struggle movement going on. They rule in northern and western india even less than 150 yrs.

Mughals power was destroyed first by Nadir Shah and later by Marhatas. Control of Dehli was transferred to British from Marhatas after they lost second anglo marhata war in 1803.

Hi Dhruv I think you forgot about the last standing empire against British The Mighty Sikh Empire. Which fought two anglo sikh wars and stand till 1849. While maratha empire defeated in 1818 by british. And the interesting thing is that the sikh empire had 80% population of Muslim, 12 % Hindus and 8 % Sikhs. I am a Pakistani now living in south punjab but my grandfather migrated from Amritsar or Ambersar which had 51 percent sikhs and 45 percent muslims. No state was divided from its heart like punjab and thats why there is more love and indian and pakistani punjabis than other states who remained where they were. we hav esame mothertongue literature and culture.

17:35 Mir Jafar had control of majority of Siraj Ud Daula's army. Initially during Battle of Plassey Britishers were losing against Siraj Ud Daula's extremely big army. So they played a dirty game. They used Mir Jafar to win. Mir Jafar betrayed Siraj Ud Daula by not sending the army under his control to battle. Due to this Siraj Ud Daula's soldiers fell short and he lost. Mir Jafar betrayed his own King for the throne so he got killed by Britishers because he couldn't be trusted anymore. Thank me later for the detail here... Myself from West Bengal. 200 years of colonial rule is not a period when we gave up and become a slave rather this 200 yrs period is actually continuous struggle. Actually british doesn't even rule for 200 yrs they ruled north for even less than 150 yrs also that period is hard for them to rule in 1838 they defeated Sikhs and then they acquired whole india just for next 100 yrs and from 1857 there is struggle movement going on. They rule in northern and western india even less than 150 yrs.

I think you forgot about the last standing empire against British The Mighty Sikh Empire. Which fought two anglo sikh wars and stand till 1849. While maratha empire defeated in 1818 by british. And the interesting thing is that the sikh empire had 80% population of Muslim, 12 % Hindus and 8 % Sikhs. All repelled British side by side as one nation called The Great Panjab

Mir Jafar had control of majority of Siraj Ud Daula's army. Initially during Battle of Plassey Britishers were losing against Siraj Ud Daula's extremely big army. So they played a dirty game. They used Mir Jafar to win. Mir Jafar betrayed Siraj Ud Daula by not sending the army under his control to battle. Due to this Siraj Ud Daula's soldiers fell short and he lost.
Mir Jafar betrayed his own King for the throne so he got killed by Britishers because he couldn't be trusted anymore.
